Born in 1999 and raised in Michigan, Joseph Skerik is the newly-appointed violist of the Vega String Quartet, where he is an artist and faculty member in residence at Emory University and the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta. He has studied at the Yale School of Music, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Paris Conservatory and Interlochen Arts Academy. He has performed at festivals such as the Ravinia Institute, Heifetz Chamber Music Seminar, Highlands-Cashiers Festival, Perlman Music Program, Aspen Music Festival, and the Lake George Music Festival, and his chamber music performances include concerts with musicians such as Ani Kavafian, Ilya Kaler, Jaime Laredo, Philip Setzer, Shmuel Ashkenazi, Andres Cardenes, and Shannon Lee. Joseph is a Young Arts Merit Violist, a prize-winner at the American Viola Society Competition and was most recently awarded 3rd prize at the 4th Oskar Nedbal Viola Competition in Prague. He is the co-founder of Viridian Strings, a chamber music series in Northwest Lower Michigan, which just concluded its sixth season of performances. He is appearing at the 2023 Vivace Music Foundation at the invitation of Ani Kafavian for performances with Colin Carr, Erin Keefe, Margaret Batjer, Boris Slutsky, Edward Aaron, Dmitri Berlinsky and others.
